Vanessa Pires (b. 1980) is founder, project and artist manager at ARTWAY culture & arts (2011), the first management agency focused in classical and contemporary music in Portugal, where she represents some of the most notorious composers, conductors, instrumentalist, singers and projects of the country. Starting her music life as a cellist, Vanessa went on to study at Porto ESMAE and, since 2001, has been a cellist at Casa da Música as a member of the Baroque Orchestra, and invited cellist of Remix Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. She has played with conductors such as F. Biondi, B. Broniman, H. Christophers, L. Cummings, P. Eotvos, P. Hillier, B. Lubman, H. Niquet, A. Parrot, R. Podger, E. Pomárico, P. Rundel, among many others, and has perfomed at Berlin Filarmonic, IRCAM, Centre Pompidou, Haendel Festival, Palau de la Música, Beijing Music Conservatory.
Later on, in 2018, Vanessa took a master degree on Cultural Management at University of Barcelona. Her final project was “Art Lab – Festival Stella” at Serra da Estrela, focused on developing a new social aproach to culture and arts.
Vanessa is involved in the development of multidisciplinary music projects with composer Luís Tinoco, cellist Filipe Quaresma, pianist António Rosado, percussionist Miquel Bernat and Drumming Grupo de Percussão, Temporada Darcos and Nuno Côrte-Real, working closely with festivals and cultural institutions in Portugal: Festival Internacional de Música da Póvoa do Varzim, CM Matosinhos, Teatro Municipal do Porto, Casa da Música, Festival Internacional de Música de Espinho, Festival das Artes, Festival de Leiria, Festival do Marvão, Festival de Castelo Novo, Dias da Música de Belém, CCB, Fundação Gulbenkian, Teatro Nacional de S. Carlos, Culturgest, Orquestra Metropolitana, Fórum Luísa Todi, among others.
Vanessa Pires is also interested in the production of CD recordings and has been executive or/and music producer for recordings featuring Artway Records, Odradek Records and Naxos labels.
Vanessa is invited teacher at ESMAE Porto and has been invited speaker at FJM (F. Gubenkian), Braga Univerisity and Acesso Cultura.
