Born in Vila Real, in 1964. He began his musical studies at the Porto Music Conservatory in 1982, completing the Higher Piano Course with Profª. Arminda Odete. He got is Composition degree in 1991 at the Escola Superior de Música do Porto. In 1998 he obtained his master's degree in composition at the University of Sheffield (England). Later in 2017 he completed his Phd at the same university under the supervision of composer George Nicholson. He has been a Composition professor at Escola Superior Música e Artes do Espetáculo since 1999. He also has been pianist, composer and arranger for Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos for the last 25 years. Several of his works are recorded on by different authors.

Crossfade (2010); For Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra and Soloist. Commissioned by Matosinhos City Council, Premiered on February 26, 2010, Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon
Labirintho (2010); Solo Cello Work dedicated to cellist Filipe Quaresma
Mumadona (2012); Opera in 3 Acts. Commissioned for Guimarães Capital of Culture Premiered under the direction of  Maestro António Saiote on December 14, 2012 at the Vila Flor Cultural Center
Tempo de Outono (2014); Clarinet and Piano. Work Dedicated to Clarinetist Nuno Pinto and Pianist Elsa Silva
Drone Variations (2016); For Symphonic Band and Clarinet Quartet. Commissioned by the Portuguese Symphonic Band. Premiered under the direction of Maestro Francisco Ferreira on January 24, 2016 at Casa da Música, Porto.
Brexit (2017;) For String Quartet. Commissioned by the Matosinhos String Quartet. Premiered on January 31, 2017 at Casa da Música.
Largo (2019); For Symphony Orchestra. Commissioned by the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra. Premiered on July 11, 2019 at Festival ao Largo by Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa
O Bispo (2021); For wind ensemble. Commission for the project "Cinebanda: a film concert". Premiered on September 3rd, Villa Portela-Leiria, directed by Maestro Alberto Roque
A Ti Regresso, Mar... (2022); For Voice (under a poem by José Saramago) and Wind Ensemble. Commissioned by the 1st Festival, Leiria Creative City of Music. Premiered on November 18, 2022 under the direction of maestro Nicholas Reed and soprano Rita Marques at Teatro Miguel Franco, Leiria
Aos Deuses Sem Fiéis (2022); For voice (under a poem by José Saramago) and ensemble. Commissioned by Ensemble Síntese - Contemporary Music Group. Premiered on January 29, 2023, Igreja Matriz de Cidadelhe, Vale do Côa.
Short Term Memory (2023); For Cello Solo and Ensemble Work commissioned by Artway, dedicated to cellist Filipe Quaresma and premiered under the direction of Bruno Borralhinho at the Igreja da Misericórdia in Covilhã on  October 27, 2023
Hiding Place (2023); For Symphonic Band. Commissioned by the Culture Department of the INATEL Foundation, and the Army Symphonic Band. Premiered under the direction of Maestro, Lieutenant Renato Tomás on October 10th at Teatro Maria Matos, in Lisbon
